On October 6, 2026, Finland’s Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) reportedly ordered Tuike Finland Oy to suspend preparatory measures that could significantly alter the environment at planned Google data center projects in Muhos and Kajaani. The order addresses specified site work, not every construction activity in Finland.

NeoTeo previously covered Google’s Finland investment plans and Donald Trump’s criticism of them in an earlier article. The reported LVV order is a separate environmental development.

The order covers projects in Muhos and Kajaani

Tuike Finland Oy, described as Google’s representative, received the reported order. The restriction applies to preparatory work that could significantly alter the environment at the two planned sites.

Environmental review and site work

The order is tied to required environmental impact assessments. LVV was investigating whether forest clearing took place before the assessments were completed. Tommi Muilu, head of LVV’s Environmental Department, described work that included tree felling, topsoil removal, internal roads and storage areas, and ditch modifications.

Deadlines and Google’s response

Tuike Finland Oy was instructed to explain its plans and proposed next steps by October 14, 2026. The reported order set October 23 as the latest date for suspending the covered preparatory measures.

Google spokesperson Sondre Ronander acknowledged that the company had fallen short of its own standards in this case. He said Google would study LVV’s findings, follow its directions, and had acted in good faith. Ronander also described a company plan to plant trees on 130 hectares in Muhos.
