The idea of clones meeting their copies is not new: movies like The 6th Day, The Island, Moon have explored it, and in video games, The Alters and Hardspace: Shipbreaker (to a lesser extent) come to mind.
But this time, Bong Joon-ho (the creator of Parasite) is writing and directing. Inspired by Edward Ashton's novel Mickey7, Mickey 17 introduces us to Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), a "replaceable" who receives a new "impression" each time his predecessor dies. The problem arises when Mickey 17 unexpectedly survives and crosses paths with his build number 18.
Exploitation, questionable social values, and black comedy in a science-fiction framework... the potential is there. (January 31, 2025).
