The Three Factions and Their Heroes

For Honor is an online action game in the hack and slash style. This title showcases an innovative combat system described as The Art of Battle, which gives you full control over your heroes across three factions: medieval knights, samurai, and vikings. Each faction has four classes: the Warden, Conqueror, Peacekeeper, and Lawbringer for the Knights; Kensei, Shugoki, Orochi, and Nobushi for the Samurai; and the Warlord, Raider, Berserker, and Valkyrie for the Vikings. Each of these classes excels in different attributes; some warriors have greater offense and defense, while others are faster but deal less damage in combat.

The Art of Battle: Combat System

The action in For Honor takes place in a medieval period where you must fight hordes of opponents using hand-to-hand combat weapons specific to each faction, such as axes, swords, and katanas. If you perform certain actions, like killing several enemies consecutively, you earn points that allow you to call down a rain of arrows or a catapult attack. The Art of Battle system also activates when you have to fight a stronger warrior. You enter a duel mode where you can choose how to place and position your weapon from three directions (up, right, and left) when attacking the opponent.

During this instance, your opponent's movements, which reflect their respective attack position, expose the weakest part of their body so you can counterattack or block at the right moment.

Multiplayer and Release

In addition to the main campaign, For Honor features an online multiplayer mode with five game types: Dominion (where you must break the enemy team's morale and then eliminate them), Duel (two players face off in a three-round fight in an arena), Brawl (a 2 vs 2 deathmatch of three rounds), Skirmish (two teams of 4 vs 4 must earn points while killing enemies), and Elimination (two teams of 4 vs 4 face each other). If the game interests you, take advantage of the opportunity to register for the beta, which will begin in January 2017. For Honor is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting February 14, 2017.
