A few weeks ago we wrote an article about audio players that work without a user interface and, following that theme, we decided to recommend four command-line audio players.

This way you can give orders to an audio file using commands that have already been added to the “System32” folder.

DLC Player

We'll start with DLC Player, a command-line audio player that plays MP3, FLAC, OGG, WAV, and other formats. The tool uses the IrrKlang sound library, and to play a song you'll need to use the syntax “dlc –p” followed by the path, name, and extension of the file. (It supports audio effect packages.)

DLC Player is a free program available for Windows operating systems.

CmdMp3

We continue with CmdMp3, a command-line MP3 player, written in C language. To play an audio MP3 using the platform, you'll need to use the command prompt and type the word “CmdMp3” followed by its location, name, and extension. It will play from the task manager.

Sounder

Sounder is a simple CUI audio player that only plays WAV files, and by writing command lines you can give it an action, such as stop, loop, timer, and help. One of the tool's advantages is being able to play more than one WAV file at the same time.

Sounder is a free program available for Windows operating systems.

Mpxplay

We'll finish with a bang: Mpxplay, a CUI-based audio player, but with the peculiarity of having a graphical user interface. Although it's quite basic, you can move around the entire computer searching for any audio file with the mouse (it supports almost all formats). Or you can use the keyboard to search and give actions to files.

But the program also supports playing internet radio (HTTP) or files via the FTP protocol.
