While it would be a mistake to say that YouTube's problems extend to all users of the service, the truth is that many people are interested in seeking an alternative experience to the official site. With that in mind, we come to the FreeTube project, which we first talked about last year. If the plan is to watch YouTube with more privacy and without the associated bloat, I definitely recommend downloading a copy.
Those responsible for YouTube have made some decisions that were not entirely liked by users. One of the latest conflicts affected those who browse with Firefox, but that's not exactly a new story. The general feeling is that YouTube has become slow, heavy, and potentially unstable regardless of the browser or operating system, so... what alternatives are left? Fortunately, there are some special clients out there, and one of the most interesting is FreeTube.
FreeTube: How to watch YouTube with more privacy
FreeTube's official page offers portable versions for Windows on x64 and ARM64, but it's not a bad idea to use its traditional installer. When you run it for the first time, FreeTube is essentially ready to use; however, the most important thing is to load our subscriptions. The program explains the exact process (all details appear here), and once we have the csv file in our possession, importing requires only a couple of clicks in the Data Settings section of the configuration.
The remaining options are divided into multiple categories: among them, general parameters, theme, player behavior, codec, video quality by default, a "distraction-free" mode that modifies the interface, privacy and history values, proxy, and even parental controls. The factory values seem to work very well, and personally I think I didn't modify anything except the region for the Trending section.
To finish, FreeTube is technically a beta application (version 0.19.1), but its situation has improved a lot since the last time I installed it. Link below!
