The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating potential consumer harms involving AI agents, an FTC spokesperson confirmed. The spokesperson did not specify which consumer-protection issues the inquiry covers.
The White House accord is a separate voluntary pledge
The FTC inquiry is separate from the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, a voluntary pledge that outlines four company oversight measures:
- Internal controls.
- An empowered internal team.
- Independent external assessment.
- Board-level oversight.
The pledge identifies cybersecurity, biosecurity, chemical threats and unintended AI actions as risk areas. The broader federal AI-policy discussion also includes the White House’s safety-review guidance effort, covered in our earlier article.
