Selfies keep finding new ways to grab people's attention. This time, Tourism Australia has come up with an app aimed at Japanese tourists to take a giant selfie. Its name is GIGA Selfie, and it lets you capture your face along with the landscape in the background. The photo is taken by a camera 111 meters away, with each camera positioned at tourist spots across Australia. At each spot, there's a base where people stand and then use the GIGA Selfie app on their smartphone to snap a photo of themselves with the surrounding scenery as a backdrop.

A link lets you share the image as a short video clip, starting with a close-up of the selfie and then zooming out to reveal the location where the person is. Needless to say, the image is a high-resolution, gigapixel photo. The inspiration behind the concept began when it was discovered that Australia's largest number of tourists came from Japan. As a result, they launched a campaign with various events to promote GIGA Selfie at different tourist spots around the country to attract Japanese visitors.
