Gmail Screenshot is an extension for Google Chrome that lets you capture the full screen or just part of it, directly from your Gmail account. The tool also lets you add annotations to your snapshots, or take a sequence of captures and send them all together to the recipient of your message.
What makes the platform interesting is the ability to capture your screen straight from Gmail, quickly and automatically, without having to attach images. Once you've installed the add-on in your browser, you'll need to register with your Gmail account (if you're already signed in, there's no need). Then you'll create a free cloudHQ account.
Getting Started with Gmail Screenshot
At this point you're ready to start capturing your screen from your email account. Open a new compose window in Gmail and you'll see a new Attach Screenshot icon next to the Send button. Click it.
A new dialog box will open with three tabs at the top:
- Your whole screen: captures the entire desktop screen.
- Application window: captures the screen of a program open on the desktop (if the program is minimized, it can't be captured).
- Chrome screen: select any active browser tab and take snapshots of it.
Editing and Sending Your Screenshots
After clicking Share, the capture tool is enabled. Once you take the snapshot, a new window opens where you can add color, use the Brush, pencil, marker, pixelation, rectangle and arrow tools, and of course the text tool for adding text to the snapshot.
When you finish editing the capture, click Done so the screenshot is added to the body of the email.
If you need to send more captures, repeat the steps we've described and the snapshots will be listed in the body of your message.
Gmail Screenshot is really a great platform for capturing the screen directly from Gmail. But the most interesting part of the utility is its editing and customization tools for your captures.
