Google announced on October 20, 2026, that Gemini Personal Intelligence had begun rolling out on Android Auto for eligible accounts. The United States is within the geographic scope Google announced, but access is staged, so not every eligible account necessarily has the feature yet.

What Gemini can do with connected services

With the user’s permission, Personal Intelligence can draw on information from Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube and Search. Google says this can let Gemini retrieve flight details from an email, find a place mentioned in a photo, or navigate to an appointment on a calendar.

The practical change is that a request can use details from a person’s connected Google services, rather than relying only on what they say in the car. Google also says Gemini can use saved Maps places and information across connected services to respond to natural-language requests.

US access depends on account eligibility

Google described the rollout as global, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Nigeria. The United States is not on that exclusion list, putting it within the announced geographic scope. That does not mean every US account already has access: Google described the Android Auto rollout as beginning, and eligibility rules apply.

Users must be 18 or older and have an eligible personal Google account. Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts are excluded. Google lists Gmail and Google Calendar among the services Personal Intelligence can connect to, while limiting eligibility to qualifying personal accounts.

Personal Intelligence is optional

Connected apps stay off until the user enables Personal Intelligence. If the setting is already enabled in the Gemini app, Google says it carries over to the car; users can also adjust their preferences in Gemini settings or turn the feature off there.

Android Auto navigation, music, calls and questions remain available without Personal Intelligence. In that case, Google says answers are not personalized using the user’s connected information.

Google said on October 20 that it planned to bring Personal Intelligence to cars with Google built-in in the coming months. In those cars, Google says personalized responses are available only when the user is in the car with their phone connected.
