Google began rolling out Gemini Personal Intelligence on Android Auto after announcing the feature on October 20, 2026. Google said cars with Google built-in were planned to get it in the coming months. The United States is within the announced global rollout scope, but the announcement did not establish that every eligible account had access.

Android Auto is the first phase

Google said Gemini was available globally in cars, while Personal Intelligence was beginning its Android Auto rollout. The company planned a later phase for cars with Google built-in. Android Auto is a phone-based experience; Google built-in is integrated into a car. Our explainer on Android Auto and Google built-in covers how the platforms differ.

What connected apps can add

With a user’s permission, Personal Intelligence can draw on Workspace apps such as Gmail and Google Calendar, as well as Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Search. Google’s examples include combining a flight confirmation with a search for delays, finding directions to a doctor’s appointment, and navigating to a car wash identified from a photo.

Eligibility and controls

Google’s rollout covers eligible personal Google accounts for people 18 or older. Workspace business, enterprise, and education accounts are excluded. Google also named the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria as regional exclusions. The United States is not among them, though Google described a rollout rather than access for every eligible account at once.

Personal Intelligence is optional. Users can enable it and choose connected apps in Gemini settings, then turn it off there. Google says navigation, music, calls, and questions continue to work without it; answers simply won’t use the personalized context from connected apps. For cars with Google built-in, Google said personalized responses are shared only when the user is in the car with their phone connected.
