A user recording dated October 31, 2026, reportedly showed a cropped rear-camera photo missing from Google Files while an edited screenshot remained visible. The user identified Google Photos 7.99, Forbes reported.
What the reported 7.99 case showed
Forbes described the recording as one user’s observation. The device was not identified. Forbes had also described Google Photos 7.97 as an apparent fix for the photo-picker problem.
The edited-photo problem and reported workaround
The earlier reports concerned Pixel users whose photos stopped appearing in other apps’ photo pickers after they edited an image in Google Photos and saved the changes over the original. Forbes said even a 90-degree rotation could trigger the symptom. Apps named in those reports included Discord, Facebook, Gemini, Google Messages, Telegram and WhatsApp.
Forbes reported that version 7.97 appeared to address the problem and recommended Save as copy for users still seeing it. Saving a separate copy avoids replacing the original, according to the reported workaround.
Missing albums can be a separate picker issue
A separate Reddit discussion described a POCO X5 Pro user whose albums were missing from an app’s picker. A commenter described Android’s system photo picker as distinct from Google Photos and a device gallery, and suggested checking “From this device” for local items. The commenter also said cloud-stored media may need to be downloaded. That missing-album complaint is different from the reported failure of an edited original to appear in another app’s picker.
