Google announced a $15 billion investment plan for Malaysia on November 4, 2026, with data center campuses planned in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan for 2027–2028. A related local initiative pairs shared water infrastructure with school energy labs and renewable-energy workforce training.

Two data center campuses are planned

Google says the new computing capacity will support AI and cloud services, including a forthcoming Google Cloud region for enterprise customers. The company also says its in-country infrastructure will support services such as Search, Maps, and Chrome. Its November 4 announcement describes the new campuses as part of a $15 billion Malaysia investment plan for 2027–2028. Google’s announcement

In May 2024, Google announced a $2 billion commitment for its first Malaysian data center and Google Cloud region at Elmina Business Park in Selangor. Google says its newer plan builds on earlier infrastructure commitments. The 2024 announcement

Google also plans to add more than 1 GW of clean-energy capacity to Malaysia’s National Grid. It says it will pay for electricity used by its data center campuses and for their direct grid-connection costs. For tropical climates, Google cites a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio of 1.12–1.14 for its designs and equipment, compared with an industry average of 1.54. PUE is a data center energy-efficiency ratio.

A shared reservoir and treatment plant are planned

Google announced $160 million in funding for shared water infrastructure in Negeri Sembilan: an off-river reservoir on the Linggi River and a water treatment plant designed to produce up to 65 million liters of potable water per day. The project is intended to serve both the planned Springhill Industrial Park campus and public water supply. Google says the reservoir will collect excess river flow and rainfall, and that the facilities are to be owned by Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan (Incorporated) upon completion. School labs and a renewable-energy course are planned

Google’s Negeri Sembilan plans include school energy labs and a workforce course, with both initiatives scheduled to roll out in early 2027. Each participating school’s lab is planned to have a 2.56 kWp solar array and 5.4 kWh of battery storage. The kWp figure describes the array’s peak power rating; kWh measures stored energy.

The second initiative is a permanent 36-hour Digital Skills for the Renewable Energy Workforce course in the SOLS Solar Academy. These local programs sit alongside four broader Google training initiatives, which aim to build skills for approximately 800,000 Malaysians from 2027 to 2031. Google names those programs as Experience AI Malaysia, Jelajah AI MSME, AKAD Rakyat, and planned Data Center Institutes at selected polytechnics.

Google’s employment and economic figures are forecasts

For the planned two-year construction phase, Google forecasts more than 37,000 local jobs supported per year, including about 6,000 construction jobs. It also forecasts an average annual contribution of $1.1 billion to Malaysia’s GDP and $378 million in average annual labor income during construction. Once the facilities operate, Google projects more than 9,000 local jobs per year and average wages 45% above Malaysia’s national median. These are company forecasts for future construction and operation, not reported results. Google’s investment announcement
