If your goal is to create a logo or another kind of digital presentation, you'll likely have to cross swords with Adobe Illustrator, but I imagine few users are willing to pay several dollars a month for casual use. The most logical thing in that case is to look for an alternative, and that's how we discovered Gravit. It may not have the robustness and complexity of Illustrator, but its browser-based operation and its “zero cost” are two big points in its favor.
Designing a logo can start on something as simple as a piece of paper, but sooner or later you need to move it to a computer to fully exploit its potential. Of course, that step requires having the right tools. The market doesn't hesitate to offer options in the style of Illustrator, but even if we limit our view to vector editors, the truth is that there are other shortcuts out there besides the ultra-commercial ones.
In my youth I played a lot with CorelDRAW, and more than once I found myself missing the simplicity of old versions 10, 11, and 12. That said, if you feel that Adobe made a mistake by discontinuing Fireworks, you are like me and fondly remember old editions of CorelDRAW, or you're looking for an editor that doesn't require devouring a dozen tutorials, you should take a closer look at Gravit.
Gravit: Online Vector Design
After creating a simple user account, Gravit provides links to beginner guides, or alternatively, several pre-designed templates that we can edit at will. All the basic aspects of vector editing are there, including objects (triangles, squares, or more complex polygons), insertion of texts and images, grouping-transformation-blending-clipping-division, and several tools to precisely establish the position of each element on the canvas. Once finished, the work can be exported as PNG, JPG, or SVG, and when importing material, it supports both SVG and PostScript (whether encapsulated or not).
Gravit is easier to use than it appears, and I'm sure that in a few minutes any user will master all its basic functions. The app offers an annual PRO option (not as expensive as the alternatives), which allows you to work offline, unlimited space in your account, and integration with Google Drive, among other things. In short, if you were looking for something similar, give Gravit a free try. And if you don't like it, you'll always have the old and reliable GIMP.
