Evangelion. Is there anything left to say about this franchise? Let's see: on one hand, the release of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 remains delayed due to a certain virus, and on the other, the city of Hakone is developing a collaborative project called Evangelion x Hakone 2020 that aims to cover everything with Evangelion material. From custom decals on buses to scale statues, it's almost impossible not to find something related to the series…
The 'Evangelion x Hakone 2020' Project
Basically, the idea behind Evangelion x Hakone 2020 was to celebrate the end of the tetralogy (which was supposed to hit Japanese theaters on June 27), and to serve as a tourist attraction ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. The COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponement of the premiere and the rescheduling of the games to 2021, but the great Evangelion event went ahead anyway. Although it was supposed to conclude in June, organizers confirmed an extension until the end of September.
Why Hakone?
Why Hakone? The answer is simply canon. Tokyo-3 was built in Hakone, and if memory serves, that's where the First Impact happened, with the Black Moon striking the Earth. I'm afraid fans will have to keep waiting for a new release date for the film. Until that happens… enjoy these images.
