Changing the speed of videos on YouTube is almost an afterthought for Google. The option is hidden inside the gear menu, and its default values are not exactly flexible. Previously we explored some extensions that allow us to have more complete control, and today we want to add Super Video Speed Controller to the mix. This Chrome-compatible extension includes a special interface, a dozen presets, custom settings, and the possibility of separating the configuration per tab.
The standard procedure to change the speed of a video on YouTube requires entering the gear menu, then choosing the option Playback speed, and finally the multiplier. The official interface also has a custom mode to modify the value in 0.05x blocks, but its limits remain firm at 0.25x as a minimum, and 2x as a maximum.
So why not expand that function? There is never a shortage of videos where we need to study a frame very slowly (say, plays in some sport), or we want to speed up an entire section without resorting to skip (restoration videos are good candidates for this). If you feel that 0.25x and 2x are insufficient values, you will find a good solution in Super Video Speed Controller, a Chrome-compatible extension, and other Chromium flavors.
Super Video Speed Controller: Speed Control on YouTube (and other sites too)
The extension can apply its configuration in three different ways: In the current tab, on the domain, or across all tabs. To this are added precise percentage controls for speed (-5, -1, +1 and +5 percent), twelve presets ranging from 25 to 1600 percent, and keyboard shortcuts to increase or decrease speed by one point.
However, the most interesting thing about Super Video Speed Controller is that it also works outside of YouTube. The official page does not offer any compatibility list, but I can say that it responded wonderfully on Dailymotion and Vimeo. To finish, its only weak point (if we can call it that) is the lack of support in Firefox, but Enhancer for YouTube is a good alternative to cover the gap. Link below!
