All changes that a program makes to the operating system directly affect the registry, so we are going to show you how to control those small changes that occur in the Windows registry and that affect the proper functioning of our computer.
To observe and control changes in the Windows registry we will use the Regshot program.
Configuring Regshot
Once you have downloaded the program from its official page, you can start with the steps to control changes in the registry. The platform has a very simple interface, but its task is very important because it allows us to create snapshots of the registry to then compare them. To do this, we first have to determine the destination folder, then the registry directory, and finally the output format (.txt or HTML).
After determining all the parameters, you can take the first capture: you will have to click on “1st shot”. At that moment, the tool will start scanning the entire registry folder that you specified in the settings. Now, when you add or install a program to the computer, you will have to take the second snapshot by clicking on “2nd shot”, and in this way, after a scan, the platform will take the second capture.
After taking the second snapshot, you can click on the “Compare” button and the document will open from which you can observe all the changes made to the Windows registry, in the interval between the two scans.
Interpreting the Results
In the report you will see deleted keys, added values, deleted values, and modified values among much other information. But all this data is not easy to read; it is more oriented to advanced users, and if you are an average user, we first recommend that you familiarize yourself with this type of language.
