Google Drive is one of the best cloud services for sharing any type of content. But when sharing a document publicly, the link that Google Drive provides is not direct. And this drawback is even greater when we use download managers, such as PyLoad or Tucan, because those links won't work on those platforms. To prevent this problem, we present Download Link Generator for Drive, a Google Drive extension that integrates into the context menu of the environment.
The add-on integrates directly into your Google Drive account and, because of that, the plugin will work from any web browser.
How to generate a direct download link in Google Drive from the right-click context menu?
The first thing you need to do is install Download Link Generator for Drive on your computer. During installation you'll have to allow all the permissions of the add-on.
Now you'll have to go to any file or document hosted in Google Drive. We'll pause at this step because it's essential that the file you want to share is in public state, so that the add-on can generate the direct download link.
Once you are at the file, you'll need to right-click on it with the auxiliary mouse button and select the option "Open with" and then choose "Download Link Generator". Automatically the service will take you to a web page that opens in a new tab of the web browser. And after a process that only takes a few seconds, the extension will give you a direct download link for the file to share.
This way, you'll easily and quickly get a direct download link for any file hosted in your Google Drive account. This service is ideal when you have to download very heavy files and you're forced to use an external download manager or a similar program.
In our tests everything worked perfectly, except for some Microsoft Word formats where the add-on was unable to create a direct download link. But for other files, everything worked very well. Download Link Generator for Drive is a totally free service and has no limitation on the links created.
