Google Street View is an excellent resource for reaching specific destinations or exploring entire cities without leaving home, but one thing is certain: Mountain View doesn't want us to take screenshots. On one hand, there is no official command, and on the other, we can't hide the interface completely. However, with the help of a new extension called Screenshot for Street View, captures are just a click away.
Google Street View is a source of incredible images, a center of virtual tourism without precedent, and a game that tests our geography knowledge. But the truth is that Mountain View imposes a series of limitations on Street View, among which stands out the impossibility of taking a clean screenshot, that is, without the interface. Developer Bilaal Rashid recognized this problem, and his solution is a small extension called Screenshot for Street View, compatible with Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
How to Capture Street View Images with Screenshot for Street View
The extension changes its behavior depending on the browser. In the case of Chrome and Safari, Screenshot for Street View can remove the interface and automatically send a copy of the image to the download section, but in Firefox we find the "lite" edition, which only removes the interface. There is no advanced configuration or anything like that. Nor does it include advertising, secondary purchases, or subscriptions. Its creator assures that processing is local, and everything stays on our computer.
The only premium aspect of the extension reaches Safari users, who will have to pay $2.99 to use it. On the other hand, Chrome and Firefox versions are completely free. Personally, I think Screenshot for Street View enables a bit more control in Firefox, and I have also discovered that the Chrome version fails to hide the Street View interface under Microsoft Edge. I imagine that a future update will fix this detail.
