Microsoft’s documented way to install Windows 11 version 26H2 is through Settings > Windows Update on eligible PCs running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. For the enablement-package route, Microsoft requires KB5124010 or a later cumulative update; a controlled rollout means the offer may not appear on every eligible device at once. Check eligibility and the prerequisite

Microsoft names Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 as eligible starting versions for the 26H2 enablement package. An enablement package activates features already present in the versions’ shared servicing branch. Before installing it, the PC must have KB5124010 (OS Build 26100.9546 Preview), dated September 22, 2026, or a later cumulative update. (Microsoft’s KB5121794 guidance)

Install 26H2 through Windows Update

  1. Open Settings and select Windows Update. This is Microsoft’s standard route for eligible 24H2 and 25H2 PCs.
  2. Turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available,” if you want to request them sooner. The setting does not override eligibility or a compatibility safeguard hold. (Microsoft’s 26H2 availability announcement)
  3. Select Check for updates. If Microsoft offers Windows 11 version 26H2, choose the download and installation option.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Why the 26H2 offer may not appear

Microsoft is expanding availability through a controlled rollout and may use safeguard holds for known compatibility issues. So even when the latest-updates setting is on, Windows Update may not offer 26H2 yet; Microsoft said rollout availability would expand over time. The USB audio issue Microsoft lists

Microsoft reports an unresolved issue affecting some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices. Symptoms can include Device Manager Code 10, no sound, unresponsive volume controls, or sound settings that are unavailable. Microsoft says a future Windows update is intended to address the issue. Microsoft does not recommend installing Windows 11 on a PC below the minimum hardware requirements; it warns that such a device is unsupported and not entitled to updates. (Microsoft’s Windows 11 download page)
