There are several ways to download a Windows ISO image. While it's possible to reduce the entire process to a couple of clicks depending on the version, the truth is that Windows 11 is still in preview phase, and we need a little extra help. That's when Universal MediaCreationTool steps in, a wrapper for Microsoft's official application that lets you choose the exact version of Windows, and also includes a new resource to install Windows 11 bypassing the compatibility check.
Each new restriction from Redmond only strengthens the determination of some users to avoid it. How to install Windows 11 with Universal MediaCreationTool
From a technical point of view, Universal MediaCreationTool works as a special wrapper for the official Media Creation Tool application. What exactly does that mean? That you'll be able to choose any edition of Windows 10 (options go back to the original build 1507) and the Windows 11 preview to create ISO images or prepare a USB drive.
The process is relatively simple: you must download the entire content as a zip file, extract its contents to a temporary folder, and run MediaCreationTool.bat with elevated privileges. Windows security might have something to say about it, but we've studied the .bat closely and haven't detected anything strange.
The general options are four: Auto Setup takes you to a direct update without prompts, Create ISO creates a local ISO image, Create USB prepares a USB drive, and MCT opens the standard Media Creation Tool. However, the most interesting element is a script called Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd, which, as its name suggests, disables the TPM check on dynamic updates. ISO images also include an auto.cmd file, which works similarly.
Once again, maybe this won't last
Universal MediaCreationTool was recently updated, and as far as we've been able to check, it works very well. However, the showdown will be on October 5, the date when Windows 11 final makes its debut. In other words, Microsoft has a week to define its position, whatever it may be.
