The folks at Redmond still need to optimize the search system in all their Windows. Results tend to be lacking (even with indexing enabled), which has always led us to explore different replacements. Today it's the turn of ScanFS, which received an update last June. It has all the advanced parameters we can expect from such software, and it brings a preview mode for compatible file formats.

I still remember Agent Ransack, an option that remains very popular, while not long ago we covered WinFindr. It's that, despite Redmond's efforts, searching files in Windows is still a struggle, and there are many users out there ready to cut their losses, replacing the whole system. That leaves us at the gates of ScanFS, a development from Saleen Software.
How to search files in Windows with the help of ScanFS
ScanFS quickly rises above the standard search thanks to its advanced parameters. The interface lets us discriminate results by extension and drive, as well as apply secondary filters such as minimum and maximum size, the condition of the date (created or modified), and before or after a specific day.
Another positive aspect of ScanFS is that it has the ability to search within the content of a file, as long as the format is compatible. Finally, I would like to highlight its preview system. Search for some images, select several at once, click the Enable Preview checkbox, and the content will appear at the bottom.
If you need to export the search results, ScanFS offers support for CSV, TSV, and HTML. The program is free for personal and non-commercial use, but you'll see that it injects Google ads in its interface. A small compromise to get its features without charge, however, remember that there are other options if that doesn't convince you.
