Windows does its best to provide accurate results when it comes to searching for files and folders, but its performance tends to be lacking, and the indexing process can cause performance issues on modest computers. Beyond any built-in optimization, there are interesting external alternatives, and one of them is Agent Ransack, which is not only fast but also provides a general summary of the content and creates reports.

Some users have a lot of trouble locating their own files on the hard drive. Even though Windows offers "by default" folders for each type of content (Music, Images, Documents, etc.), the truth is that there are always files with the strange ability to disappear into thin air. Another negative aspect is the poor performance that the operating system exhibits in most search operations.

Microsoft tries to compensate for this with background indexing, but the remedy often turns out to be worse than the disease if the hardware isn't up to the task (say, a fast hard drive or an SSD). Personally, I don't have that problem (I know exactly where my files are, and I use the desktop a lot), but if you feel you need something different when searching for files on your PC, you can download a copy of Agent Ransack.

Agent Ransack includes support for the Spanish language in its interface.

Technically, Agent Ransack is a simpler variant of File Locator Pro, but all essential functions are there, including support for searching network drives, and the ability to locate files using Boolean commands (AND, OR, or NOT). Another option is to filter results by date (creation, modification, and last access), as long as its "expert mode" is activated.

The criteria can be easily stored for later execution, and if necessary, Agent Ransack has the ability to generate a detailed report with the complete list of found files and their exact path on the drive, which is saved in plain text.

Agent Ransack has a unified 32 and 64-bit installer, is compatible with the context menu, and can completely replace the traditional explorer search, even when invoked with its keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+F or F3). Agent Ransack is fast, lightweight, austere in memory consumption, and does not come with any "gift" in the background.
