By default, Paint.Net does not support Photoshop filters, and this limits many of the application's capabilities. But here at NeoTeo we're going to show you how to do it, so you can take your photo editing to another level.
Last week we showed you how to insert a Photoshop filter into Paint.Net. This note made us think about how to use the same environment to add a large number of filters.
To do this, we will install a plugin called “Paint.NET 8bf filter plugin”. This plugin gives us the ability to install a large number of Photoshop filters in Paint.Net (only the .8bf files).
Installing the plugin in Paint.Net
From its official page, download the 8bf Paint.NET plugin in ZIP format, then extract the file and copy the PSFilterPdn.dll and PSFilterShim files and paste them into the Effects folder of Paint.Net.
Then you can start Paint.Net. Now you just have to place the filters so that they run in the environment.
Inserting the filters
In this second step, we will need to download any Photoshop filter (8bf). Here we recommend some:
- Paint.NET Bulk Image Processor
- Paint.NET Animated Gif Plugin
- Mosaic Creator
Once downloaded, you will have to copy the files and paste them into the Effects folder of your Paint.Net.
Now you have to start Paint.Net and place an image in its work area and click on the Effects menu and look for the installed filter (if you installed more than one, you will have to do the process one by one). Then a filter window will open and it will be configured so you can use it in your environment.
As you can see, it is a simple task to incorporate Photoshop filters into our Paint.Net environment, and in this way we will increase the capabilities of Paint.Net to carry out high-level photo retouching.
Paint.Net is a free application that is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. And all the filters that 8bf offers are also free. In this way, we are incorporating filters found in a commercial platform into our free and universal environment.
