The YouTube channel Plasma Channel proposes something different... but familiar at the same time: Sterilization of hands and small objects with the help of the corona effect and ozone generation. In other words, washing your hands with 20,000 volts.
Why Soap and Hand Sanitizer Aren't Enough
In mid-March we explained why it's better to wash your hands with soap instead of using only hand sanitizer. In relaxed terms, the process physically removes the virus (a combination of capture and transport, to be more precise), while hand sanitizer serves as a useful complement. Now, no matter how effective that route is... it's not perfect. There are many people with skin conditions who can't come into contact with any of those substances, and there's also the need to eliminate the virus on the surface of small objects: Keys, rings, bracelets, and even money.
The Ozone Sterilizer at 20,000 Volts
In fact, experts don't seem to have reached a consensus on the exact time that SARS-CoV-2 can remain active on different surfaces. Some are particularly lethal (for example, copper), but for others there's no solid data. So, how about a very fast disinfection method, without the intervention of liquid substances, with the ability to eradicate SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogens? The first impression is "science fiction", but Jay Bowles from the channel Plasma Channel has something to teach us:
That's right, it's ozone sterilization, with the help of the corona effect. In the past, Jay explored the concept of Kirlian photography, but with some modifications (portability and integrated power source, mainly), he turned the device into a 20,000-volt sterilizer, which creates fabulous coronas on anything that has a bit of conductivity. In an attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of this method, Jay used half a dozen Petri dishes, and cultured what was on his hands before and after sterilization (which lasted barely 15 seconds).
48 hours later, the results are notable: The three Petri dishes "pre-sterilization" developed large and abundant colonies, while in the other three barely any growth was recorded. This is possible thanks to the oxidizing property of ozone, which destroys the walls of pathogens, and also deactivates amino acids in viruses, canceling their multiplication factor.

Studies on ozone sterilization are numerous, and when used under the right conditions it's perfectly safe. However, we can't ignore a warning: In high concentrations, ozone is very harmful, and that's why using a generator to disinfect a room requires us to leave it, and ventilate it completely at the end. The difference is that with this device, only exposures of 15 or 20 seconds are needed. Could this become a commercial product? Only time and circumstances will tell.
