Say hello to the i.Con, a smart condom with integrated sensors that can measure multiple aspects of the sexual act such as calories burned, the quantity and speed of penetrations, the duration of sessions... and circumference, for those who need to know.
The great promise of wearable devices stayed just that: a promise. Smartwatches never really took off, the accuracy of fitness trackers has been questioned more than once, some companies bit the dust (Pebble's bankruptcy was scandalous, to say the least), and others began to scale back their presence in that market. Not a few believe that the wearable device is doomed. Another possibility is that its relationship with clothing becomes more intimate, with sensors ending up in shirts, pants, or shoes. However, British Condoms has a different plan: a wearable device that works in the middle of a sexual act.

Make room for the i.Con, a smart condom that actually has nothing to do with a condom, but is worn like a ring at the base of the penis, either over a real condom or directly in contact with the skin. The elastic format of the i.Con allows it to adapt to different circumferences, which, by the way, is one of the "features" recorded by its sensors. To that are added the total calories burned during sex, speed and quantity of penetrations (you know... the pumping), duration and frequency of sessions, positions adopted (something apparently in beta), and the average skin temperature.
The i.Con includes a micro USB port to recharge the battery, which according to the manufacturer enables between six and eight hours of activity. Now, data collection is supposedly anonymous, but if the user wishes, they can share it with the rest of the world, even comparing their overall performance against other users. The official price of the i.Con is £60 (€70), and it will go on sale at some point this year.
