If you are using Windows 10 and your computer is running slowly, the problem is likely due to the large number of processes running alongside the operating system. When you open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del), you'll see several unknown processes like the 'svchost.exe' group. So from NeoTeo we decided to give you some tips to increase RAM performance and learn to explore and manage the Windows 10 Task Manager.
Since Windows Vista, Microsoft has changed the way it manages RAM in its operating system, so all these tips can be used on Windows Vista or higher systems.
Monitoring svchost.exe
svchost.exe groups many native Windows processes, and generally average users should not touch these groups. Unlike other processes, the elements running inside a svchost.exe are non-executable files (libraries, DLLs, etc.) that contain information and functions that can be used by multiple applications at the same time.
When you open the Task Manager, you'll see that this process consumes a lot of RAM and that it runs multiple times.
To learn more about svchost.exe, go to the Details tab, right-click an instance of svchost.exe and select Go to service or services from the context menu to switch to the Services tab. This way you'll see what each svchost.exe is running. We repeat: if you don't know about systems, don't disable any of these instances.
Disabling a service
If we are sure that disabling a function that is not responding or slowing down our computer won't affect Windows functionality, we can do it. So it's not the same to disable Firefox as an unknown process. If we close a process important to the operating system, we could create another problem.
For this reason, we recommend you know each active process in your Task Manager. To do that, enable the system configuration tool, also known as msconfig, by opening Run (press Windows + R) and typing services.msc and pressing Enter.
Then you can study and learn about each active process on your computer. You'll also see the state of the process and can start, pause, stop, or resume it. This tool can help us identify third-party applications that are slowing down Windows 10 startup. We recommend you disable actions one by one, not in batches. (Misuse of msconfig can cause problems).
Print queue or fax
Spoolsv.exe processes are queue services that Windows uses to manage data (back and forth) from printer and fax. If you have trouble working with the printer or fax, it's likely because the Spoolsv.exe processes are causing issues, so you can cancel or restart these processes.
To fix it, go to the Services tab, look for Spoolsv.exe, right-click on it, and then select the appropriate action.
The *32 tag
If you are using Windows 64-bit, you might wonder what the *32 tag that appears on many processes means. If you have no idea what these actions mean, from NeoTeo we tell you they are processes running in 32-bit and although these applications don't cause conflicts on your computer, it's good to know how much memory they consume.
These processes generally don't need more than 4GB of RAM, like Google Chrome, but if they do, they'll do it in separate processes to avoid consuming too many resources and increase security.
