Intel said on October 9, 2026, that Diamond Rapids will be the last Xeon platform to include Software Guard Extensions (SGX), while Trust Domain Extensions (TDX) will become the focus of its Confidential Computing roadmap. The company also plans to continue support and security updates for existing SGX platforms into the early 2030s. Intel’s announcement sets a future roadmap direction, not an immediate end to support for those platforms.

Diamond Rapids marks SGX’s endpoint in Intel’s Xeon roadmap

Intel identifies Diamond Rapids as the final Xeon platform that will include SGX. For existing SGX platforms, Intel’s plan is to continue support and security updates into the early 2030s. That horizon is a company plan, not a single end date for every platform.

SGX and TDX protect different boundaries

SGX protects selected application code and data inside enclaves. TDX protects an entire virtual machine, or VM. That difference matters when considering a move between them: the technologies place their protection boundaries around different parts of a computing environment.

Why Intel is focusing on TDX

Intel cites scalability, ease of deployment and the operational model of VM-isolation technologies such as TDX as reasons it sees them as suited to broader adoption. Those are the company’s stated reasons for the roadmap shift.

Intel also lists trusted I/O with TDX Connect, post-quantum cryptography and enhanced attestation among its TDX investment areas. The roadmap identifies these as areas of investment, rather than promising that each will ship with Diamond Rapids.
