John Wick: The Movie Video Game in Nintendo NES Style

Keanu Reeves is one of the most beloved guys on the web. And it's well deserved: he has starred in many of our favorite movies and, apparently, is an excellent person on every level, who doesn't let Hollywood glamour go to his head. That's why it's no surprise that his memes flood every corner of the internet, and even less that he receives all kinds of tributes, including in the world of video games, like this one. The game “Jonn Wick” created by Dominic Ninmark and Danilo Dias is everything you could want from a crossover between John Wick and the Nintendo NES. An action game, super hard, with the charm and design of old games that—luckily—has infinite lives (because it's very hard!).

You already know how it goes: a group of drug addicts kill John Wick's dog, the one his deceased wife left him as a symbol of hope. Clearly they made a terrible mistake, but their fate is already sealed. It's time for revenge! That, and only that, is all you need to know to enjoy this amazing action game made by talented fans. A game that looks like it came straight from the Nintendo NES, but that you can play on any PC without any emulator.

The game succeeds in bringing the chaos and intensity of the action scenes from Keanu's movies to the minimalist 2D side-scrolling level design of the Nintendo NES. John can shoot sideways and upwards diagonally, can jump, and use a powerful melee weapon if the enemy is too close. That's all you need to know to beat the few but very difficult levels.

John Wick is super hard, but not impossible

That John Wick, the video game, is very difficult doesn't mean it's impossible. As with all games of that era, memorization is key. So, as you mow down enemies, destroy helicopters, and dodge cars, you'll learn about the enemies that populate the level. When you lose, you'll go back to the last checkpoint (which are quite close to each other) and replay that segment until you beat it. The game is very unfair, yes, and throws enemies at you from everywhere, but it compensates with infinite lives.

TL;DR: a tribute game of John Wick in the best Nintendo NES style, which is very difficult but also very cool. Interested? Download it from its official page on itch.io. It only weighs 20MB and runs on any PC with Windows. Enjoy!
