When a traditional laptop isn't flexible enough and tablets don't quite convince, it's worth taking a look at convertible laptops. For some time now, Lenovo has been offering its Yoga line of convertibles, and with CES 2016 heating up, the Chinese giant took the opportunity to introduce the new Yoga 900S, the thinnest of its kind in the world.
The Yoga lineup gains a new member
Convertible laptops whisper to the ears of those (including myself) who feel the temptation to completely rotate the screen of their portable systems. Depending on how you look at it, the convertible is an excellent design decision or a hybrid halfway there, but one thing is certain: their specifications have improved with each new generation. A good example is Lenovo's Yoga series, which currently offers three models: the Yoga 3 Pro, the Yoga 700, and the Yoga 900, based on an Intel Core i7. With CES 2016 upon us, Lenovo concluded that the Yoga line needs an update and presented a new convertible inspired by the Yoga 900, but which many see as a direct replacement for the Yoga 3 Pro.
The Yoga 900S features a 12.5-inch screen (2560 by 1440 pixels), a carbon fiber body, a weight of 998 grams, three USB 3.0 ports (including one Type-C with support for video output via a dongle), stylus compatibility, and Windows 10 Home as its operating system, marking the first part of its specifications. Depending on the configuration chosen by the user, the maximum RAM is 8 GB, while storage goes up to 512 gigabytes on solid state. The processor chosen for the Yoga 900S is an Intel Core m7, so it drops a few steps compared to the Yoga 900, but in exchange the user gets 10.5 hours of battery life. All of this is contained in just 12.7 millimeters of thickness. Lenovo says it is the thinnest convertible in the world, and for now, we have to agree.
Another notable detail of the Lenovo Yoga 900S is an optional mouse that also works as a remote control when you rotate its lower part, allowing you to use the computer in presentation mode, among other things. This mouse is not exclusive to the Yoga 900S and can be used with any compatible Windows computer. The Yoga 900S will hit shelves in March at a price of $1,100, while the mouse will make its debut in April at $69.
