LG says it broadened its cooperation with Microsoft after LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo met Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington, on September 21, 2026. The framework spans AI data-center infrastructure, workplace AI and physical AI. On the same day, LG Electronics and LG Energy Solution were reported in separate Nvidia DSX Ready categories.
LG and Microsoft broaden cooperation from Redmond
The new framework moves the relationship beyond its earlier automotive-AI work into infrastructure and industrial applications. The immediate data-center discussions cover high-capacity cooling, power systems, IT systems and prefabricated modular data centers. These facilities are designed to be assembled in sections and expanded as demand grows.
The workplace-AI portion includes plans to introduce Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft 365 E7: The Frontier Suite across LG’s global office workforce. The physical-AI portion focuses on training models for manufacturing, logistics and mobility through Microsoft cloud infrastructure.
Physical AI refers here to AI models intended for systems that operate in the real world, such as industrial, logistics and mobility applications. LG describes a “data flywheel” in which industrial data feeds back into model training.
| Cooperation area | Activity described | Scope |
| AI data centers | Cooling, power and IT systems, plus prefabricated modular data centers | Infrastructure for expanding AI-computing capacity |
| Workplace AI | Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft 365 E7: The Frontier Suite | AI and productivity tools for LG’s global office workforce |
| Physical AI | Cloud-based training of industrial AI models | Manufacturing, logistics and mobility |
The relationship has developed in stages. LG and Microsoft signed a 2019 memorandum covering Azure-enabled automotive AI and infotainment. In December 2025, LG and LS affiliates presented data-center technologies at Microsoft’s Redmond campus while discussions were exploratory. The September 2026 framework adds the broader infrastructure, workplace and industrial-AI scope.
The Nvidia DSX Ready connection
LG Electronics is reported in Nvidia’s DSX Ready category for cooling distribution units. LG Energy Solution is reported in the category for battery energy storage systems.
Nvidia describes DSX Ready as a qualification program for products and solutions intended to meet the requirements of its AI-factory reference designs. Its description of battery energy storage systems covers equipment that can store and dispatch energy to help AI data centers handle rapid power changes, grid disturbances and demand.
The cooling equipment shown is an LG Electronics coolant distribution unit reported at 2.5 megawatts. That figure belongs to the pictured unit. LG Energy Solution’s qualification applies to its battery energy storage systems, a separate product category from LG Electronics’ cooling equipment.
LG’s Nvidia relationship also includes a June 2026 AI-factory cooperation announcement covering robotics, autonomous driving, data-center technologies and GPU cloud services. In August 2026, Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang signed a memorandum covering robotics, AI factories and mobility.
What the framework means commercially
The Microsoft arrangement positions LG Group across several parts of the AI-infrastructure stack: LG Electronics contributes cooling equipment, LG Energy Solution contributes energy-storage systems, and other LG affiliates bring data-center, IT and research capabilities to the group-level effort.
For Microsoft, the areas under discussion include the hardware and systems needed around AI data centers as well as cloud and workplace software. For LG, the framework links its industrial businesses to Microsoft’s cloud and AI platforms while Nvidia’s program places two affiliates in separate AI-factory infrastructure categories.
The commercial details remain at framework level. LG and Microsoft have not announced purchase orders, project locations, supply volumes or contract values for this expanded cooperation. No named Microsoft data-center deployment accompanies the September 21 meeting.
