Lightkey is a powerful add-in for Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. It’s especially useful for writing long texts thanks to its predictive text tools, which refine and improve your typing as you go.
One of the platform’s best features is its text prediction, backed by a large database of specific topics such as science, technology, sports, aeronautics, and more.
Once you download the add-in from its official site, you’ll find it very easy to use. All you need to do is edit your profile by entering your name, writing style, prediction language, and prediction category.
The environment supports 70 languages; just select yours (by default it detects your computer’s language plus English), then choose one or more categories and click continue.
At this point you’re ready to use predictive text in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and LightkeyPad. You can also view graphs of your typing efficiency from within the environment.
Configuration options
The environment includes several settings: Lightkey’s Hardware usage, Suggestion Interactivity, Keyboard triggers, Spaceless Completion, and Table Spacebar Completion.
- With “Lightkey’s Hardware usage” you can control the environment between efficient and powerful.
- The second, “Suggestion Interactivity,” lets you personalize text between predictive and precise.
- The third, “Keyboard triggers,” completes text automatically.
- The fourth, “Spaceless Completion,” lets you choose the TAB or CTRL+SPACE keys to complete phrases with spaces.
- The fifth, “Table Spacebar Completion,” is used to autocomplete tables.
In our tests, the platform worked perfectly; the predictive text made writing faster and easier. Some users don’t use this kind of add-in, which is totally understandable, because the technique can feel a bit invasive. But for those who are used to these tools from mobile devices, it’s a very good alternative.
