A proposal reported on Oct. 5, 2026, would add Google Tensor G5 support and initial device-tree files for the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL to Linux 7.4. The proposed phone support is basic: it lays kernel groundwork, rather than providing a complete Linux phone system.
What the Linux 7.4 proposal covers
The proposal introduces ARCH_GOOGLE for the Tensor G5 family, code-named Laguna, and names three phone variants: Pixel 10 (Frankel), Pixel 10 Pro (Blazer), and Pixel 10 Pro XL (Mustang).
Device-tree files describe a device’s hardware to the kernel, helping it identify the platform it is running on. Initial files are a starting point for that support, not a substitute for the drivers and features needed to use a phone day to day.
The proposal’s rationale is that early Google GS101 designs were derived from Samsung SoCs, while Tensor G5 follows a separate design. The proposed ARCH_GOOGLE symbol reflects that distinction.
The reported Tensor G5 specifications include:
| Component | Specification |
| CPU | 1 Cortex-X4, 5 Cortex-A725, and 2 Cortex-A520 cores |
| GPU | Imagination PowerVR DXT-48-1536 |
| Memory | LPDDR5X |
| Machine-learning processor | 4th Gen TPU |
Basic kernel support is not a complete Linux phone
Earlier mainline boot work on Pixel 10 reached a serial UART command prompt from an initramfs, depended on an unreleased bootloader, and lacked drivers and features needed for ordinary smartphone use. That earlier work illustrates the gap between getting a kernel to boot and having a usable phone system.
