Some know her because they're doing well, others because they feel down, want to relax, or simply need some music while studying. Lo-Fi Girl, or Lo-Fi Study Girl is a creation of artist Juan Pablo Machado, but it gained worldwide fame thanks to ChilledCow's YouTube profile, which delights more than six million followers with live streams for studying and sleeping.
After a minor copyright incident earlier this year, ChilledCow works as it always has, and many of its fans decided to celebrate the young student by creating local versions.
The Copyright Incident
The incident in question is related to a clip from Studio Ghibli's film Mimi o Sumaseba (Whisper of the Heart in the West), which shows a young woman studying. YouTube's algorithms kicked in, interrupting a stream that had lasted more than 13,000 hours. After multiple complaints and criticism online, YouTube admitted it was a mistake on their part and reinstated ChilledCow's account. The creation of Lo-Fi Girl dates back to March 2018, announced by Machado himself on his official site.
