Many users have replaced the traditional mouse with a touchpad or a touchscreen, but there is a third option: the trackball. One of the most important names in that niche market is Logitech, although its last original model reached the public in 2010, a detail that confirms (at least in part) its low demand. Today, Logitech decided to bring the trackball back with the new MX Ergo, which includes a hinge to change its angle and a Bluetooth system that allows it to be connected to two devices simultaneously.
A personal connection to trackballs
I bought my first trackball in January 2015. It is one of the last versions of the Logitech Trackman Marble, and since then it has not left my desk (except for the occasional accident with my cats). Besides helping me save space, my wrist pain disappeared, thanks to a much lower number of movements. Of course, the transition was not easy, and from a certain point of view it is a downgrade (it requires cleaning similar to old mice and software to enable scrolling), but in the end I managed to adapt completely, and I don't regret my decision. Why did I choose the Marble despite its limitations? Three reasons: it was the most economical option, the only one with a symmetric design, and it had been seven years since Logitech launched a revised model (the last one is the M570). Fortunately, the company decided to change that third point and revive its trackball line with the new MX Ergo.

Eight buttons, an average of 380 DPI, wireless connectivity via Bluetooth or a dedicated receiver, an integrated 500 mAh battery, and a weight of 259 grams with its base define the MX Ergo's specifications. The base has a small hinge that allows you to adjust its angle up to a maximum of 20 degrees. One of the buttons changes the speed and precision of the pointer (for those occasions when you need to be more careful), and the Logitech FLOW system allows you to link the trackball to two Bluetooth devices, switching from one to the other with a simple button. The scroll wheel also works as a "third button" and supports lateral scrolling. Logitech states that users will see a 20 percent reduction in muscular effort, though its design is intended for right-handed users.
Battery life and price
The company claims that the MX Ergo's battery can last up to four months on a full charge, and just one minute of charging will make it work for 24 hours, while the durability of its main buttons extends to ten million clicks. Logitech offers a two-year warranty in Spain, and its official price is 115 euros.
