Microsoft announced a redesigned Copilot experience on September 25, 2026, organized around Home, Code and Autopilot. The three areas are designed for different kinds of work, and Microsoft planned to roll them out in stages through its Frontier program.

Home brings Chat, Cowork and Microsoft 365 apps together

Home is designed as a hub for Chat and Cowork, with Word, Excel and PowerPoint available within Copilot. Microsoft says it can also surface recent activity and suggestions, putting conversations and Office work in one place.

Code builds small solutions from natural-language requests

Code is intended to turn plain-language descriptions into apps, trackers, dashboards, automations and workflows. Microsoft describes its environment as sandboxed and says organizations can host solutions securely within their own tenant.

Autopilot is designed to keep recurring work moving

Microsoft’s promotional video shows the announced Home, Code and Autopilot workflows; its sequences are simulated, and feature availability may vary.

Previously called Scout, Autopilot is described by Microsoft as a cloud-hosted agent that can follow channels and threads, handle recurring work and resume projects without waiting for a new prompt. Microsoft also describes it as having its own identity, memory, computer and workspace within an organization’s tenant, subject to organizational permissions, audit and governance.

Microsoft planned separate rollout stages and billing

In its September 25 announcement, Microsoft said Home and Code would begin rolling out through Frontier in the coming weeks. It planned to bring Code to Frontier at the end of September, followed by broader availability in the weeks after that. A Code preview for Microsoft 365 Premium and Pro subscribers was planned later in 2026. Microsoft also planned to expand Autopilot to private preview at the end of September.

The planned schedule also included Today, a personalized view across mail, calendar, Teams threads, meetings and tasks. Microsoft planned to start its private preview in October 2026.

Microsoft says Chat and Microsoft 365 app use are covered by a user subscription license, while Cowork, Code and Autopilot use usage-based billing.
