Designer and modder JP LeBreton presents Mr. Friendly, a creative mod that completely changes the gameplay of the classic DOOM. Instead of running around with a shotgun mowing down hordes of enemies, you now have to help the monster victims of the marine's massacre.

Mr. Friendly: A DOOM Mod Where You Help the Monster Victims of the Massacre
Mr. Friendly

DOOM is synonymous with violence, blood, and gore. No doubt about it. But that all changes with a new mod called Mr. Friendly, created by former 2K and Double Fine developer JP LeBreton, turning one of the most violent FPS games in history into a kind of Animal Crossing. Instead of shooting left and right at everything that moves, you have to help the monsters that survived the marine's massacre. In Mr. Friendly you take on the role of a friendly guardian demon tasked with improving the lives of those demons that survived the level where the DOOM protagonist left his mark.

Each monster has a name, and you can talk to them so they can give you a series of quests (which usually boil down to bringing them a specific object). You can explore levels in depth and find secrets, or the lost objects of those friendly monsters wandering the stage. In Mr. Friendly you have an inventory, a crafting system, a list of pending quests, the ability to walk or fly, and even go fishing for fun. You can also change the textures of level walls.

Switches, doors, and level exits work as they normally do. The only thing that changes in this mod is killing for conversation, violence for friendship. There are many dialogue lines when interacting with monsters, with the usual important, funny, and absurd comments. Undoubtedly, a quite interesting twist on one of the most violent FPS turned into a social simulator. Mr. Friendly is in alpha version but you can already download it for free and play. It only requires GZDoom 3.3 (or later) and works with any Doom IWAD (Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom) and most user-created DOOM levels.
