With over twenty years of history, Need for Speed, the popular series from Electronic Arts, returns with a franchise reboot that represents a return to basics, focusing on vehicle customization, urban culture, and an immersive narrative.
We finally have an announcement for the new Need for Speed title. The popular series from Electronic Arts returns after taking a year off for the first time in over a decade. The game will be a reboot of the franchise, once again handled by Ghost Games, the developer behind Need for Speed Rivals, and according to executive producer Marcus Nilsson, it will represent a return to basics with a focus on vehicle customization, urban culture, and an immersive narrative. The new installment will be called simply Need for Speed, and here you can see its first trailer:
With more than twenty years of history, Need for Speed returns with a reboot for the current generation of consoles and PC. While the new mechanics have not yet been detailed (we'll have to wait until E3 2015), we can see in the trailer that Need for Speed keeps police chases alive amid underground races. The game promises to offer a new and enormous open world with a night cycle, where aboard the fastest cars we can step on the gas while competing to reach first place and take home a juicy prize for our feat.
Unfortunately, this reboot will not arrive on last-generation consoles, giving developers, according to Nilsson, the chance to focus on a single line of platforms. Need for Speed is being developed by Ghost Games and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game does not have a concrete release date yet, but it is expected to be launched during the spring of this year in Spain. Electronic Arts announced that it will offer more details during its conference on June 15 at E3 2015, so we'll have to wait to see what they have in store.
