Oslo District Court temporarily blocked implementation of Meta’s proposed commercial terms on October 28, 2026, while it considers their legality. The order followed a request by Norwegian media organizations, filed through the Norwegian Media Businesses’ Association (MBL). NeoTeo covered the groups’ request to pause the terms before the court issued its order.

What the publishers say the terms could cover

Publishers said the proposed terms could cover articles, photographs and videos on their websites, including paywalled journalism. They argued that the terms’ references to developing, improving, researching and maintaining advertising and business products could also encompass Meta’s generative AI services.

Among the organizations named in the case are NRK, Schibsted, Amedia, Polaris, Aller and NTB. MBL filed the request on behalf of publishers.

Meta’s separate consultation plan

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said the company would consult publishers and keep its existing terms in place during that process. He said implementation would be delayed if consultation continued beyond November 20, 2026.
