NVIDIA’s 64-bit Linux driver 615.78.08, dated October 7, 2026, adds revision 3 support for the Vulkan extension VK_NV_low_latency2 for vkd3d-proton. NVIDIA lists the download at 529.83 MB and says the change aims to reduce latency and stutter, particularly when Frame Generation is enabled.
What the new Vulkan support is meant to do
The update brings VK_NV_low_latency2 revision 3 support to vkd3d-proton, which is used to run Direct3D-based games through Vulkan on Linux. NVIDIA frames lower latency and less stutter as the goal of the change, especially with Frame Generation enabled.
Other fixes in version 615.78.08
NVIDIA’s release notes list a fix for blocky corruption observed during gameplay in The Last of Us Part II. They also describe an update to the nvidia.ko kernel module addressing an interaction with certain SELinux configurations when systemd suspends a system with NVreg_UseKernelSuspendNotifiers enabled.
That option, NVreg_UseKernelSuspendNotifiers=1, is enabled by default in this release. NVIDIA says it lets the kernel handle video-memory preservation during sleep and hibernation.
The notes also address a failure that could occur when allocating GPU page tables larger than 2 GiB, and a possible crash involving unvalidated Vulkan HDR metadata passed to Wayland’s color-management-v1 protocol.
Installation and hardware considerations
NVIDIA provides a .run installer. Its example command, run as root from the directory containing the downloaded file, is sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-615.78.08.run. NVIDIA also notes that a distribution’s own driver package may integrate better with its software framework, and points to separate installer guidance for SuSE.
Some notebooks and all-in-one systems with switchable graphics may require hardware support to disable the integrated GPU for the driver to work.
