NVIDIA’s October 13 DLSS 5 update claims a 2× improvement in 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model performance versus the September version. That figure is about the model, not a promise that every game will run at twice the frame rate. NVIDIA separately says NBA 2K27 can reach up to 1.4× its frame rate on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, RTX Spark laptops, and GeForce NOW, according to the company’s announcement.

What NVIDIA’s 2× figure measures

The speed claim compares the neural-rendering model with its September version. NVIDIA’s separate NBA 2K27 figure is a game frame-rate claim, with a named game and platforms; it is not a universal FPS multiplier.

The official model update is also distinct from unofficial DLSS 5 experiments on older RTX hardware, which NeoTeo covered in an earlier report.

NVIDIA’s short presentation of the October update focuses on the model and NBA 2K27:

The model and memory changes NVIDIA claims

NVIDIA says the updated model uses 20% less VRAM at 4K and has a footprint 24% smaller, at roughly 118 million parameters. The company also says GPU overhead is half that of the September version while visual fidelity remains comparable.

Those figures describe different parts of the update: model performance, memory use, model size, and GPU overhead. They are NVIDIA’s claims about its updated model.

Preset C is a separate Frame Generation update

NVIDIA also announced a beta Frame Generation Performance Mode called Preset C. It is a separate change from the DLSS 5 neural-rendering model: Preset C replaces the second AI model used to calculate optical flow with a faster, lighter algorithm.

The beta is for Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation on GeForce RTX 40 Series and RTX 50 Series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops. NVIDIA says Preset C is up to 35% faster specifically on GeForce RTX 5060, with minor image-quality trade-offs.

Earlier NBA 2K27 results

Zak Killian at HotHardware reported results from an earlier NBA 2K27 Neural Rendering test: frame rates fell from mostly capped 240 FPS to 69 FPS, and from 94 FPS to 31 FPS in a 4K test. HotHardware said the tests used a 16 GB graphics card. Those results concern an earlier test build, not NVIDIA’s October model update (HotHardware).

NVIDIA’s announced integration schedule

NVIDIA’s October 13 announcement scheduled these integrations:

  • October 16, 2026: the updated model for NBA 2K27 and DLSS 5 for RTX Spark laptops.
  • October 23, 2026: DLSS 5 and Preset C for RTX Remix.
  • November 5, 2026: DLSS 5 for Hogwarts Legacy.
  • Late November 2026: DLSS 5 for Where Winds Meet.
