NVIDIA’s October 13 announcements put two different DLSS 5 figures in the spotlight: the company says its October neural-rendering model runs twice as fast as September’s, while its separate NBA 2K27 claim is up to 1.4× the frame rate on specified platforms. The faster model is also part of NVIDIA’s announced RTX Spark laptop lineup, which the company scheduled to become available October 16. NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 announcement details the claims and planned game updates.

What NVIDIA’s 2× DLSS 5 claim measures

The 2× figure compares the October DLSS 5 model’s speed with the September version; it is not a claim that games will run at twice the frame rate. NVIDIA says the October model has about 118 million parameters, a 24% smaller footprint than September’s, uses 20% less VRAM at 4K, and has half the GPU overhead while maintaining comparable visual fidelity. NVIDIA also describes it as 10× faster overall than the version announced in March.

For NBA 2K27, NVIDIA separately claims frame rates of up to 1.4× on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, RTX Spark laptops, and GeForce NOW. That result applies to the named game and platforms, not to every DLSS 5 title or GPU.

Preset C is a separate Frame Generation mode

NVIDIA Preset C is a beta Performance Mode for Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. NVIDIA says it replaces one of the two AI models with a lighter, faster algorithm. On an RTX 5060, NVIDIA reports up to 35% faster Frame Generation, with minor image-quality trade-offs. This is a separate feature from the faster DLSS 5 neural-rendering model.

RTX Spark’s announced AI and app updates

NVIDIA says RTX Spark laptops are scheduled to launch with support for DLSS 5, DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, Reflex, G-SYNC, ray tracing, and RTX Remix. The company also says the platform will support hundreds of games and major anti-cheat systems. NVIDIA’s RTX Spark gaming announcement lists the planned game and technology support.

The local-AI update includes Nemotron 3.5 Bolt 74B-A9B, a mixture-of-experts model with 74 billion total parameters and 9 billion active parameters. NVIDIA says 2-bit quantization and quantization-aware training pack it into 24 GB, with availability scheduled for October 15. NVIDIA PAIR also moved out of beta in the October 13 announcement, adding RTX Spark and llama.cpp support for distributing workloads among compatible computers on a local network. NVIDIA’s RTX Spark software announcement also describes NVIDIA Broadcast 2.3, which adds offline file processing, Studio Voice profiles, and agent controls.

NVIDIA’s reported plan for RTX 40 Series

On September 4, NVIDIA spokesperson Rajal Maharaj told The Verge that NVIDIA planned to expand official DLSS 5 support to RTX 40 Series after further tuning for RTX 50 Series. The plan describes a future expansion; it does not establish a rollout date. The Verge’s report covers Maharaj’s statement.
