A U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE) filing lists a purchase of SpaceX senior unsecured notes under Donald Trump’s name, dated Aug. 18, 2026, in a value band of US$1,000,001–US$5,000,000. Two days later, Trump signed a White House space-transportation memorandum setting a goal of more than 1,000 U.S. launches and reentries annually by 2030.

What the OGE filing records

The OGE transaction report lists the purchase as entry 517 and identifies the security as Space Exploration Technologies senior unsecured notes. The stated value band is US$1,000,001–US$5,000,000; it is not an exact purchase amount. The filing lists a 5.350% rate and a maturity date of July 15, 2031.

Senior unsecured notes are debt: investors who hold them are creditors, not owners of company shares. That makes the security in the OGE entry different from SpaceX common stock.

The August 20 space-transportation memorandum

The White House fact sheet says Trump signed the memorandum on Aug. 20, 2026. It sets a goal of more than 1,000 launches and reentries annually on U.S. soil by 2030 and directs agencies to expedite permitting and environmental reviews for commercial space transportation.

The filing dates the notes transaction to Aug. 18. The memorandum followed on Aug. 20.

SpaceX bonds and shares are different securities

SpaceX Class A shares began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX on June 12, 2026, and the company’s IPO issuance closed on June 15, according to its investor-relations release. Those publicly traded shares are separate from the debt notes listed in the August OGE entry.

The White House’s account of portfolio management

The White House said outside financial institutions independently manage the portfolio and that Trump and his family cannot direct investment decisions.
