OpenAI announced GPT-6.1 Sol on September 29, 2026, with API rates of $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 per million cached input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. These are usage-based API charges, not a ChatGPT subscription fee.

Input tokens are the text sent to the model; output tokens are the text it generates. OpenAI lists cached input as a separate, lower-priced charge. It also says API usage is billed separately from ChatGPT subscriptions.
For standard, uncached input and output, GPT-6.1 Sol’s listed rates are each one-fifth of GPT-6 Astra’s: $2 versus $10 per million input tokens, and $10 versus $50 per million output tokens. OpenAI also says GPT-6.1 Sol’s cached-input rate is 50% below GPT-6 Sol’s.
Where OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Sol was available at launch
At the September 29 announcement, OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Sol was available through its API as gpt-6.1-sol and to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. OpenAI said it was not yet available in regular Chat.
OpenAI’s performance results were benchmark-specific
OpenAI reported that GPT-6.1 Sol matched GPT-6 Astra on DeepSWE v1.1 at roughly one-fifth the task cost. It also said GPT-6.1 Sol exceeded GPT-6 Sol’s best score on that benchmark by 6.4 percentage points, with lower reasoning effort and cost.
On OSWorld 2.0’s offline set, OpenAI reported that GPT-6.1 Sol scored 2.1 percentage points below GPT-6 Astra at maximum reasoning effort, at roughly one-seventh the cost per task. In the maximum-effort Terminal-Bench Science 0.1 evaluation, OpenAI reported an average task cost of $5.47 for GPT-6.1 Sol, compared with $23.80 for GPT-6 Astra and $23.21 for Opus 5.5. OpenAI says its evaluations can behave differently from production ChatGPT.
AWS announced availability on Amazon Bedrock
AWS separately announced that GPT-6.1 Sol was generally available on Amazon Bedrock.
