OpenAI’s enterprise sales overtook consumer sales and became its largest revenue driver in Q3 2026, according to co-founder and president Greg Brockman. He made the statement at the WSJ Tech conference on Nov. 4, linking the shift to growing traction for coding tools, as The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Q3 shift identifies which customer segment led; historical revenue estimates track OpenAI’s overall scale.

Coding tools gained traction after a difficult first half

Brockman described OpenAI’s first and second quarters as rough, then said its agentic coding tools gained traction in the third quarter. The WSJ account names Codex, GPT-5.6 Sol, and ChatGPT Work in the context of that change. It does not assign a specific revenue contribution to any one product.

OpenRouter’s comparison covers a specific group of companies

A September 2026 OpenRouter analysis described by the WSJ compared spending among about 120,000 companies that used both OpenAI and Anthropic tools. Their spending shares were roughly even in September; Anthropic had accounted for about three-quarters of the group’s spending at the beginning of the year. The comparison covers that cohort, not OpenAI’s total revenue or the entire enterprise AI market.

JPMorgan Chase is another enterprise partnership

Brockman also described a strategic partnership with JPMorgan Chase to provide AI services, including access to cybersecurity-focused models through Daybreak, according to the WSJ. The account also identifies JPMorgan Chase as a partner in Anthropic’s Project Glasswing.

Historical estimates show total revenue, not enterprise sales

Epoch AI’s historical series estimated OpenAI’s annualized total revenue at $2.0 billion on Dec. 31, 2023, and $13.0 billion on Aug. 1, 2025. Its model estimated an annual growth multiplier of 3.2× over that interval, with a 90% prediction interval of 3.0× to 3.4×. Epoch AI’s analysis draws on public statements and media reporting.

These are annualized estimates of total-company revenue at particular dates, not enterprise-only revenue or actual full-year receipts. They provide historical scale for OpenAI’s business, but do not quantify the Q3 2026 sales mix Brockman described.
