A report published Sept. 30, 2026, said Ortet had launched as a healthcare AI lab and that Thoreau had made a $500 million commitment to support it. The report date is not a separately established launch date. Ortet says it is developing a health AI platform and a model intended to predict individual health outcomes.
What Ortet plans to build
Ortet says its planned platform will span computing and data infrastructure, research, and model development and deployment. Its planned Ortet Health Model is designed to learn from biological, clinical and operational data, then infer health outcomes for individuals and identify actions that could help improve them.
The intended platform reaches across scientific discovery, clinical care, health operations and financial administration. These are planned applications, not established clinical capabilities.
The reported $500 million Thoreau commitment would support Ortet’s computing and data infrastructure, health-focused models, research and hiring.
The founding team and early infrastructure
The reported co-founders are Kyunghyun Cho, CEO; Keunwoo Choi, chief AI officer; Henri Dwyer, chief technology officer; Elman Mansimov, chief science officer; Jeff Hammerbacher; and Claudia Shi.
Ortet was also reported to have secured an initial GPU cluster. The lab was expected to work with customers across the health ecosystem from launch.
