In Mikhail Madnani’s reported comparison, Switch 2 is the flexible pick for handheld and TV play, while PS5 suits TV players who want the shortest measured load to the title screen. Steam Deck is another handheld option. Spike Chunsoft schedules North American physical and digital editions of STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT for October 29, 2026.

Which release dates apply in North America?

Spike Chunsoft’s October 23 schedule notice keeps both North American physical and digital editions set for October 29, 2026. The UK and EU schedule differs by format: digital editions for Switch 2, Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are scheduled for October 29, while physical Standard and SteelBook editions for Switch 2 and PS5 are scheduled for November 3.

Spike Chunsoft’s release schedule separates the North American dates from the UK and EU physical-edition schedule.

How long did each tested version take to load?

Madnani reported the time from the console dashboard to the title screen and the time to load a save. These are results from one reviewer’s comparison. Switch 1 used an SD card; the other tested versions used internal storage. The PS5 result came from a PS5 Pro.

PS5 had the shortest reported dashboard-to-title time, at 11–12 seconds. The Switch 2 edition took 16 seconds, while the Switch 1 edition took 21–22 seconds on Switch 1. Running that Switch 1 edition on Switch 2 took 17 seconds, a separate result from the Switch 2 version.

Madnani reported 15 seconds on Steam Deck and 18 seconds on ROG Ally. He repeated the ROG Ally test across two installs; his comparison did not identify a reason for the difference.

Which platform fits your play style?

For handheld and TV play: Switch 2

Madnani preferred Switch 2 as a console choice because it supports both handheld and docked play. He described its visuals as close to PS5’s, with differences in interface and font clarity and character-art rendering. The docked comparison used 4K captures and was viewed on a 1440p monitor.

Switch 2 and the original Switch version do not support touchscreen input, according to the comparison. PC input options can use the touchscreen on a handheld PC.

For TV play and the shortest reported load: PS5

PS5 is the fit for a TV-focused player who values trophy support. Its 11–12-second dashboard-to-title result was the shortest in Madnani’s tested group, measured on a PS5 Pro with the game on internal storage. That is one reviewer’s result, not a guarantee for every setup.

For portable play: Steam Deck or Switch 2

Madnani recommended Steam Deck or Switch 2 for handheld play. He said the Steam version played well out of the box with the latest update; his Steam Deck test reached the title screen in 15 seconds. Switch 2 offers handheld and docked play in one console, while its version does not support touchscreen input.

If you already have the original Switch, its version is another portable option. Madnani found its handheld presentation good, but described the docked image as the softest among the versions he compared. Its 21–22-second initial load was the longest in the reported results.

For ROG Ally or Xbox owners

The Steam version ran on Madnani’s ROG Ally, where it took 18 seconds to reach the title screen and under one second to load a save. The comparison does not give a cause for its longer initial load than the Steam Deck result.

The comparison did not test Xbox Series X|S performance. Madnani reported that the Xbox release is digital-only and does not support Xbox Play Anywhere, so the other platforms’ load times and visual observations do not provide an Xbox performance result.
