Sooner or later, everyone needs to edit PDF files. It's supposed to be a presentation format for documents in their final version, but we always find a text or a spreadsheet that requires additional data. The folks at PDFgear offer a free and easy-to-use PDF editor; however, its latest version includes access to ChatGPT, so we can receive assistance from the chatbot and extract specific information from any document while editing it.
Editing PDF files is not impossible: we just need the right tools. Previously we've mentioned options like JSoft PDF Reducer (which also compresses), and the LibreOffice package that also allows us to censor entire sections of a document. But today we want to add PDFgear, which brings some very interesting features.
First, PDFgear stands out for its conversion resources to different formats, merging and splitting PDFs, and compression to get smaller files. And second, PDFgear is a bit 'smarter' than the rest, since it incorporates ChatGPT itself.
Access ChatGPT while editing PDF documents with PDFgear
Once we open the document, PDFgear will present access to ChatGPT in a sidebar. Its basic information appears in Spanish, but when talking to the chatbot, we can use both Spanish and English. A curious detail of the interface is that we must click on the gray area (below the response) to send a new message.
PDFgear warns that the maximum number of interactions with ChatGPT is 50, but there is no data on recharge options or additional limits. Its developers indicated through Reddit that they will initially absorb the cost of API access, however, there are plans to establish a pricing scheme for certain advanced functions.
Another important concern is privacy: PDFgear mentions on its official page that user information will not be stored by the program, and we know that API access to ChatGPT cannot 'train' the model, but we still recommend thinking twice before loading a sensitive PDF. PDFgear with ChatGPT is available for Windows (the Mac version will take a bit longer), and its installer weighs around 125 megabytes.
