And in another episode of "We want to see ChatGPT play Doom", a company called Animato has just launched a new app compatible with iOS and Mac OS called Call Annie. What's so special about it? At first glance it looks like a virtual avatar like many others, but the difference is that it uses ChatGPT to generate its conversations. As for the final result... let's say it has our attention.
What more can we add about ChatGPT? Revolutionary tool, apocalyptic threat, you choose. The point is that it's here to stay, and new applications and services are slowly emerging that seek to incorporate (to a greater or lesser extent) the chatbot's functions. From PDF editors to browser extensions, ChatGPT adapts to almost anything, but the people at Animato decided to do something different: give it a face.
Call Annie: Would you like to call ChatGPT?
At first glance, Annie is a fairly attractive redhead (although generated by artificial intelligence), and her voice may sound quite robotic at first, but as Chris Frantz demonstrates in his demo, there is something different here.
For example, in the middle of a conversation Annie says she studied art and engineering in Florence, which is a bit more elaborate than usual compared to other 'delusions' of the chatbot. However, she then has no doubt in confirming that she is 'a model' of artificial intelligence.
Beyond the technical restrictions Annie may suffer during her sessions (ChatGPT doesn't always work at 100 percent), time is definitely on her side.
Now, it is necessary to highlight that Call Annie has software 'and' hardware requirements: The minimum is iOS 16 running on an iPhone 12 or later (apparently, Apple's Neural Engine is involved here) and Mac OS 13 on devices with the new silicon.
