The fifth installment of the Persona series has been eagerly awaited for some time, but the wait seems well worth it. Atlus has finally shown us the first gameplay trailer for Persona 5, and it looks absolutely spectacular.
A Story of Crime in Tokyo
The story of Persona 5 takes place in Tokyo, where the theme appears to be crime. This time, the group is composed of the protagonist (also known as Ghost), a delinquent who acts as a gentleman thief; Ryuji Sakamoto, a young man with blond hair; Anne Takamaki, a girl who is in the same class as the protagonist; and Morgana, a black cat that can change into a more humanoid form and has some connection to the seven deadly sins. Together they form a group to carry out heists while hiding their identities with masks.
New Gameplay Mechanics
As can be seen in the Persona 5 trailer, the gameplay includes new additional elements, such as crossing stages by jumping on chandeliers or sliding quickly between different places to take cover, which suggests there will be several stealth sections throughout the game. Battles, which involve using Personas to attack enemies, will now have a new addition with the possibility of using the characters' weapons, whether melee or firearms. In fact, each character has a different pair of weapons, such as the knives and pistols wielded by the protagonist or the whips and submachine guns used by Anne.
Structure and Platforms
As for the overall structure of the game, this fifth installment maintains characteristic features seen in the last entries of the Persona series, where players control a group of high school students from Shujin High School. There they will discover that they have the ability to summon facets of their psyche, known as Personas, which will help them face the Shadows and Demons that roam around. Persona 5 is being developed by Atlus and will be available for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. For the moment, the game does not have a concrete release date, but it is expected to be released sometime in 2015.
