Anyone can be afraid of something specific, but when that fear becomes completely irrational and affects our ability to function, we enter the complex territory of phobias. In most cases, they can be overcome with professional help; however, one of the fundamental steps to understanding phobias is to visualize them and "put yourself in their shoes" of those who suffer from them. Artist Shawn Coss created a series of illustrations dedicated to the most important phobias, and although they are truly terrifying, we cannot stop looking at them.
A couple of months ago we talked about trypophobia, the irrational fear of clusters of holes. The most recent studies suggest that it is not a real phobia, but rather it is more in line with an instinctive reaction, which cannot be "eliminated" as such. In fact, there is also the possibility that trypophobia is a variant of dermatophobia, the fear of skin conditions. Now, what about the rest? Let's say they are much better documented. Claustrophobia almost has a "classic" profile, and arachnophobia even had a movie of its own. What we are going to see next is a series of illustrations developed by artist Shawn Coss that focus exclusively on phobias. His style is raw and disturbing (I admit it reminds me a bit of Don’t Starve), more than adequate to represent these disorders. Do you suffer from any of them?
